A Japanese woman has got her knickers in a knot over Google Street View.
She is suing Google over claims the search giant displayed images of underwear hanging on her washing line on its Street View mapping service.
The unnamed woman is seeking damages of 600,000 Yen, claiming that the images had caused her psychological distress, resulting in losing her job and the changing of her residence.
Japan’s Mainichi newspaper reported news of the suit, highlighting that the lady first saw the photo on Google’s Street View service in Spring when she performed a search on her own house.
It is claimed that upon discovering the pictures of underwear on her washing line, the woman’s existing obsessive compulsive disorder worsened as a result of increased anxiety, leading her to feel as if her life was being secretly recorded.

New US Research has found that 57% of firms do not have or are in early stages of a mobile strategy.
Despite the massive adoption by consumers of mobile phones, and more recently sophisticated phones that can access the Internet, only about one third of firms in a recent survey have had a mobile strategy in place for more than a year, a new study from Forrester Research Inc. finds.
57% of the 203 consumer product strategy, e-business and marketing professionals surveyed say their organizations either do not have or are just beginning to develop a mobile strategy. 10% have had a fully operational mobile strategy for less than a year, Forrester analyst, Thomas Husson writes in his report, “How Mature Is Your Mobile Strategy?”
The study also found that one-third of companies don’t have a single executive in charge of leading and developing their mobile consumer strategy, and 46% say one or fewer employees work full time for their company’s mobile efforts.

The growing popularity of social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook is encouraging financial services organisations to start interacting with their customers using these channels.
In the past couple of weeks, ING Direct launched a soft social media campaign in tandem with the introduction of Charles – the orangutan that replaced comedian Billy Connelly as the face of the bank. Customers can access Charles’ Facebook page through the bank’s home page and leave comments.
“Charles can chat with people through the site and he is also on Twitter,” says an ING spokesperson. “Our social media campaign is more of an experimentation exercise and we’re leaving it to grow organically.”

SEEK Ltd head and co-founder Paul Bassat has announced he will stand down in June next year, with co-founder Andrew Bassat to take over as sole chief executive of the online employment and education company.
The outgoing head said that while he remains passionate about the business and its team, he has “come to the conclusion that it will be hard for me to show the level of enthusiasm for the job itself over the next few years as is required to perform to the best of my ability.”
Paul plans to rejoin the board in 2012 as a non-executive director after a 12-month absence, Seek said, and will continue as a long-term shareholder.
Describing the Melbourne-based company as one of the world’s most “exciting” businesses, Mr Bassat said Seek would continue to prospect under Andrew’s leadership.

According to new research, young Australians are taking time out from busy online lives to read books, go to a dinner party, watch a movie or visit an art gallery.
When extrapolated out, the study finds that the 4 million Australians aged between 16 and 30 are trying to balance the demands on their lives by turning to more simple pleasures.
Lifelounge Group, working in tandem with Sweeney Research, found that Facebook remains the number one site among young people with almost half of them (47 percent) spending at least five hours each week online.
“Pressing pause is not about switching off,” Lifelounge chief executive Dion Appel told Australia Associated Press on Monday. ”It’s about temporarily alleviating the pressure. The youth market has become a generation of digital multi-taskers and they’re starting to experience digital overload.”

Back in March 2010, Hitwise reported that Facebook had surpassed Google in the US to become the most visited website. Sure, it was a week’s worth of data but the writing has been on the wall ever since.
Then in May we learned that in the UK, people are visiting social networks more than they’re visiting search engines. Facebook dominates the current crop of social networks, accounting for the majority (55%) of all social site visits. When compared to the wider web, Google got around 9.3% of all web traffic, while Facebook captured just over 7%.
But when UK stats for all search engines were stacked up with data from all social sites, social networks attracted .55% more traffic than search engines.
The writing on the wall started to get a whole lot larger.
According to Alexa, Google.com is ranked Number 1 globally and Facebook is ranked Number 2.
